Oral History Project
Soon to be archived at Library of Birmingham
Ladypool Speaks
An Oral History Project supported by Heritage Lottery Fund and The Library of Birmingham
Ladypool Speaks is primarily about women who live and work in Ladypool Road both past and present, recording and documenting their experiences and realties. Sonia Sabri Company conducted over 20 interviews, which opened a door to the stories of real women, illuminating their strength, power and achievements, also revealing their contribution to the city of Birmingham today!
In April the interviews will be archived together with old photographs and specially commissioned music inspired by the women’s stories at The Library of Birmingham, thus creating a chunk of history that will never be forgotten. This fascinating archive will be made publically available as a resource for the community, inform researchers and inspire future artists, poets, authors or musicians.
This is a valuable project illumnating an often forgotten part of society. Please visit the website for further information on the project and to view some of the interviews: www.ladypoolspeaks.co.uk . Also don't forget the project will be able to be used as a public archive as from May 2015, please contact Library of Birmingham for further information on how to access this archive.
